What is a rusk?

Rusks are described as lightly sweetened twice baked bread that is enjoyed dipped in (or alongside) coffee or tea. These delicacies were first discovered by the Afrikaners in the 1690's as a way of preserving bread over long periods of time without a refrigerator. Back then, rusks were a necessity, now they are a delicacy that is found in most South African homes and are enjoyed for breakfast, lunch or dinner time. Ruusters Artisanal Rusks are unique in that they are hand-crafted in small batches and made with the idea of bringing a special South African tradition into the hearts of many.
